I am happy to start the new year with a new publication in Research Policy. In this publication Jarno Hoekman and I develop a framework explaining how authorship opportunities for local researchers in large, global research projects depend on how researchers are spatially embedded in projects and the local resources they draw upon. We empirically apply our framework to the context of multi-city clinical trials, a context where authorship challenges arise rather frequently and questions about the involvement of local site investigators have been raised by academics and practitioners.
