Undertaking a PhD is both a highly demanding and deeply rewarding endeavor. It may represent the beginning of an academic career or provide advanced analytical and research skills that are valuable in the private and public sectors. I welcome expressions of interest from prospective doctoral candidates who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies in innovation, entrepreneurship, and related areas at the Unit for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg.
To provide effective supervision, it is essential that there is a strong alignment between the proposed PhD project and my research expertise, both theoretically and methodologically. I therefore consider projects that are closely related to my main research areas, particularly:
- innovation and knowledge generation in knowledge-intensive industries,
- alliances, collaboration, and innovation networks,
- internationalization of science and R&D,
- exaptation and repurposing.
Methodologically, my expertise is primarily in quantitative and mixed-method research, including econometric analyses, bibliometrics, and social network analysis. I am open to mixed-method projects combining quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Before contacting me, I strongly recommend familiarizing yourself with the structure and admission requirements of doctoral education at the University of Gothenburg and the School of Business, Economics and Law, including formal eligibility criteria and funding arrangements. In Sweden, doctoral students are typically employed by the university as salaried PhD candidates, which means that pursuing a PhD normally requires an open and funded doctoral position. Another possible pathway is an industrial PhD arrangement, where the doctoral candidate is employed by a company or another external organization while being enrolled in the doctoral program at the university. Please note that the availability of supervision is therefore closely linked to funding opportunities and formally advertised doctoral positions.
