Adlerbert Research Foundation funds research on repurposing

I am grateful for the opportunity to advance my research on repurposing innovation through a grant from the Adlerbert Research Foundation. The project “𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘴: 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘰𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵?” studies whether and to what extent existing medicines are repurposed, i.e. used in disease areas other than the originally intended ones. A particular focus on my empirical research in this project is to explore whether drug repurposing is used to address unmet health needs, particularly needs prevalent in developing countries. A further important aspect of this project is to study when and how firms engage in repurposing activities and use repurposing as an innovation strategy.
