I’m delighted to have been asked by Läkemedelsvärlden—a magazine published by, but editorially independent from, the Swedish Pharmaceutical Society—to comment on the development of the Swedish pharmaceutical and life science industry.
In these articles, I comment on the development of the Swedish life science ecosystem and the challenge of scaling SMEs into major players. I also comment on the recent surge in pharmaceutical exports. While this is certainly a positive development, I argue that exports alone are not sufficient to build and maintain the knowledge and capabilities needed to discover new drugs and drive preclinical and clinical development which are the foundations for developing the medicines of the future.
